FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Illuvia® Sense on the Premier Breakthrough Technology Contract
1. About the Premier Contract
What was awarded?
The Illuvia Sense Continuous Air Disinfection System has been awarded a Breakthrough Technology contract with Premier, Inc. The agreement took effect on March 16, 2026, and gives Premier members access to pre-negotiated pricing and terms.
What is a Breakthrough Technology contract?
Premier’s Breakthrough Technology designation is applied to products that Premier identifies as clinically innovative and differentiated from existing options in their category. For members, the practical effect is the same as any Premier agreement: pricing and terms are negotiated in advance at the GPO level, so your facility does not have to negotiate them independently.
Which Premier category does Illuvia Sense fall under?
Room Environment Infection Prevention Products, under contract number BT-FA-038.
Who is eligible to purchase under this contract?
Premier members with access to the Breakthrough Technology contract portfolio. If you are unsure whether your facility or health system is eligible, your Aerobiotix representative or your Premier account team can confirm your status.
Do we still need to run our own sourcing process?
The contract removes the need to negotiate pricing and terms from scratch, which is typically the longest part of a sourcing cycle for a new technology category. It does not replace your internal review requirements. Most facilities will still route Illuvia Sense through value analysis, infection prevention, facilities or engineering, and capital review, depending on how the acquisition is structured.
Does the contract cover other Aerobiotix products?
Contract #BT-FA-038 is specific to Illuvia Sense.
How do we get contract pricing?
Contract pricing is released through your Aerobiotix representative or through your Premier account team. Use the Find My Representative page at aerobiotix.com to identify your regional contact or call +1 888 978 7087.
Is there a minimum order or committed volume?
The Premier contract has multiple tiers available based on overall annual spend.
2. About Illuvia Sense
What is Illuvia Sense?
Illuvia Sense is a continuous air disinfection system built for procedural environments. It combines air decontamination with integrated air surveillance in a single platform and is the only autonomous, human-factors-engineered medical device that delivers surveillance, prevention, and control of airborne surgical site infection risk in a single unit.
How does the disinfection process work?
Air passes through a three-stage process:
- Carbon prefiltration, which captures larger particulates and gases before air enters the core
- A patented UV-C photolytic chamber, where microorganisms are inactivated
- Medical-grade HEPA filtration as the final stage
The system eliminates 99.9 percent of bacteria, viruses, and spores in a single pass, and delivers non-turbulent ultraclean airflow into the room.
What does the system monitor?
Illuvia Sense provides real-time monitoring of:
- Particulate count
- Carbon dioxide
- Volatile organic compounds
- Barometric pressure
- Temperature and relative humidity
- Door openings and traffic patterns correlated to contamination events
The system generates auditable air quality reports from this data.
Will this require changes to our HVAC system?
No. Illuvia Sense is designed to operate alongside existing HVAC infrastructure rather than replace or modify it. Adding a layer of air disinfection does not require an HVAC redesign or a capital mechanical project.
Can it run during a procedure with staff and patients in the room?
Yes. Aerobiotix systems are designed to run continuously in occupied rooms. The UV-C energy is fully contained within the internal photolytic chamber, so there is no direct UV exposure to people in the space.
Where is it typically deployed?
Operating rooms and other procedural spaces are the primary use case. Facilities also use environmental data from the platform to support work in adjacent areas, including construction and renovation zones near procedural suites.
What are the installation, power, and clearance requirements?
The device can utilize existing power outlets within operating rooms and procedural areas.
3. Evidence and Claims
Does Illuvia Sense reduce surgical site infections?
Illuvia technology has been shown to significantly reduce microbial contamination in the operating room, and the platform is designed to support surgical site infection reduction efforts as one component of a broader prevention bundle. Aerobiotix does not market the product for the diagnosis, prevention, or treatment of disease, and actual results vary from facility to facility. Teams evaluating the technology should treat air disinfection as a contributing intervention within an existing bundle rather than a standalone intervention.
What clinical evidence is available for our value analysis review?
Published data and studies are compiled at aerobiotix.com/data-studies. Your representative can also assemble a review packet with the technical testing documentation, peer-reviewed literature on intraoperative airborne contamination, and any facility case data relevant to your service line.
What data will our own facility generate?
Once installed, the system produces continuous environmental data specific to your rooms, including particulate load, door opening frequency, and traffic patterns. Facilities commonly use this to refine OR traffic and turnover protocols, to inform scheduling decisions, and to connect environmental metrics to surgical site infection outcomes during root cause analysis.
4. Standards, Survey Readiness, and Compliance
How does this relate to AORN and ASHRAE guidance?
Illuvia Sense is designed to support compliance with AORN recommendations and ASHRAE ventilation guidance for procedural spaces by adding continuous filtration and disinfection without altering the underlying ventilation design. Your representative can walk your team through the specific guidance references that apply to your room classifications.
How does it support Joint Commission survey readiness?
Illuvia Sense is designed to address all three Joint Commission Accreditation 360 infection prevention and control pillars in a single platform, providing the documented, measurable, and governed processes surveyors expect:
- Surveillance: real-time visibility into procedural air quality, with auditable air quality reports available for survey.
- Prevention: continuous three-stage decontamination running in the room during cases.
- Control: environmental data that informs protocol refinement and demonstrates a governed, data-driven process.
Can it support ICRA 2.0 documentation?
Yes. The platform supports ASHRAE ICRA 2.0 documentation for construction and renovation activities near operating rooms, providing infection prevention teams with measured air quality data rather than observational assessments alone.
What is the regulatory status of the product?
Aerobiotix products carry EPA Establishment Number 101682-OH-1 and are protected under U.S. Patent Numbers 9,433,693 and 9,457,119. The Illuvia Sense is an FDA 510K-Exempt medical device.
5. Evaluation, Purchase, and Next Steps
Can we evaluate the system before we buy?
Yes. Aerobiotix offers a complimentary air quality assessment. A unit is placed in one of your rooms, so your team evaluates data from your own environment rather than from the manufacturer’s materials. Requests can be submitted at aerobiotix.com/request-in-facility-trial or through your representative.
What is the process to purchase under the contract?
Contact your Aerobiotix representative to confirm Premier eligibility and release contract pricing. From there, your team completes internal value analysis and capital or operating review, and the order is placed against contract BT-FA-038 through your normal purchasing workflow.
Who should be involved from our side?
Most successful evaluations include supply chain or contracting, value analysis, infection prevention, perioperative leadership, and facilities or engineering. Quality and accreditation staff are often valuable to include early on, given the survey-readiness component.
