Overview:

This Live Bacteria Evaluation Report focuses on assessing air quality in an operating room environment to determine the effectiveness of the Illuvia® Ultraclean Air System by Aerobiotix. The study, conducted in the Labor & Delivery unit at a hospital in Florida, used the Illuvia® HUAIRS MD Unit alongside a TSI Biotrak Viable Particle Counter to monitor air particle sizes and concentrations, particularly for potentially infectious bioaerosols.

The report outlines a methodology for capturing baseline and post-intervention air contamination levels, comparing these against international clean air standards. Over three weeks, air quality measurements were recorded continuously, both with and without the Illuvia® system operational, capturing data during various operational activities such as surgeries and room cleanings.

Results from the study indicated a significant reduction in air contamination levels when the Illuvia® system was used. Specifically, the system achieved a reduction average of 71% across all measured particle sizes, with notable decreases in viable particle counts – those associated with living bacteria crucial to infection control. These findings support the effectiveness of the Illuvia® Ultraclean Air System in enhancing air quality and potentially reducing the risk of surgical site infections in healthcare settings. The report concludes with a recommendation for incorporating the Illuvia® system into broader infection control protocols within the hospital to maintain high standards of environmental safety.
