Removal of SARS-CoV-2 bioaerosols using ultraviolet air filtration

Overview:

This study evaluates the efficacy of a combined UV-C light and HEPA filtration air purification system in removing SARS-CoV-2 from the air. Conducted at the Battelle Biomedical Research Center and Wake Forest Baptist Health, the research tested the system’s effectiveness under different setups, including UV-C light alone and in combination with HEPA filtration. The findings demonstrate that the integrated use of UV-C and HEPA filters significantly reduces the concentration of airborne SARS-CoV-2, offering a solution for improving air safety in settings vulnerable to viral transmission. This study supports the application of air purification technologies to control and prevent airborne infections.
