Isn’t the Air in the Building Clean?
The air coming into your building through the HVAC system is clean when it enters the room.
As people move through your facility, they’re breathing, talking, coughing, sneezing, and shedding skin cells. They are leaving a trail of particulates that carry viruses and bacteria (including SARS-CoV-2, C-diff., TB, influenza, Staph) in the air. These invisible air contaminants and allergens put students and staff at risk.
About Aerobiotix Technology
Increasing airflow or using HEPA filters can improve air quality but won’t kill germs in the air like Aerobiotix solutions do. Our products use shielded UVC germicidal light, HEPA filtration, and a proprietary photolytic chamber to eliminate 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, and spores in the air.1
Use our solutions to:
- Reduce infections, outbreaks, and hospitalizations
- Increase environmental safety for students and staff
Our Products
No need for expensive renovations or retrofitting. Simply plug in our portable products and be assured that the air in classrooms, offices, break rooms, restrooms, and other areas is being sanitized.

Air Quality & UVC Light Research
NY Times interactive demonstration on school ventilation
The C.D.C. is urging communities to reopen schools as quickly as possible, but parents and teachers have raised questions about the quality of ventilation available in public school classrooms to protect against the coronavirus. We worked with a leading engineering firm and experts specializing in buildings systems to better understand the simple steps schools can take to reduce exposure in the classroom.
Is Germicidal UV Light Safe?
UV light is a naturally occurring phenomenon. In fact, 10% of the sun’s rays contain UV light, which is a form of electromagnetic radiation.
Improving indoor air quality to prevent COVID-19
Ventilation and air filtration play a key role in preventing the spread of COVID-19 indoors. As schools and offices open up, here’s what building managers should do to reduce SARS-CoV-2 particles in the air we breathe.
Inactivation of Virus-Containing Aerosols by Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation
The increasing incidence of infectious diseases has prompted the application of Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) for the inactivation of viruses. This study evaluates UVGI effectiveness for airborne viruses in a laboratory test chamber by determining the effect of UV dosage…
UV Lights and Lamps: Ultraviolet-C Radiation, Disinfection, and Coronavirus
Given the current outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease caused by the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, consumers may be interested in purchasing ultraviolet-C (UVC) lamps to disinfect surfaces in the home or similar spaces. The FDA is providing answers to consumers’ questions about the use of these lamps for disinfection during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Emergency Assistance to Nonpublic Schools (EANS) says about funding for a portable air sanitization system?
- An allowable reimbursable service and/or assistance includes portable air purification systems.
- For the most current information on the EANS Program, visit this EANS FAQ.
How does Aerobiotix technology work?
- A pre-filter cartridge first captures larger particles to ensure optimum efficiency of the system.
- A proprietary photolytic chamber slows the travel of particles, providing sufficient time for internal ultraviolet light to inactivate them.
- The remaining particles, now inactivated, move through a medical-grade HEPA filter in the AeroCure 200 (the GermZone 100 does not have a HEPA filter) to trap them from returning to the air.
- This technology provides a pathogen elimination rate of 99%.
Is there a warranty?
Yes, all products have a 3 year warranty.
How safe are UVGI (ultraviolet germicidal irradiation) products?
- Unlike many UVGI products currently available, AeroCure 200 and GermZone 100 use shielded ultraviolet light (lamps contained within the units), so there is no exposure of ultraviolet light to people. Therefore, our products are safe to use in occupied spaces.
- UVGI lamps have been used for many decades in the healthcare industry.
- UVC treatment is a proven method for sanitizing air, water, and nonporous
surfaces.
What do regulatory organizations say about using HEPA and UVGI to combat SARS-CoV-2?
Per the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), recommendations include:
- Portable, free-standing high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters
- Use UVGI
- Only use air cleaners for which evidence of effectiveness and safety is clear
- For more information from ASHRAE on benefits of HEPA and UVGI: Position Document on Infectious Aerosols (April 14, 2020).
Per Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) recommendations include:
- Consider using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) as a supplement to help inactivate SARS-CoV-2, especially if options for increasing room ventilation are limited.
- For more information from OSHA on benefits of HEPA and UVGI: Protecting Workers: Guidance on Mitigating and Preventing the Spread of COVID-19 in the Workplace.
What does the CDC recommend for ventilation in schools?
- Open windows, use portable air cleaners, and improve building-wide filtration.
- Consider portable air cleaners that use high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters.
- Consider using ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) as a supplemental treatment to inactivate SARS-CoV-19.
Have these products been tested for effectiveness?
- Yes, this technology has been tested by independent laboratories: RTI, NIOHIM and Battelle Institute. It has been tested with MS2, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and SARS-CoV-2. Results were consistent in eliminating these airborne pathogens, as well as spores. For test documents, please contact: info@aerobiotix.com.
What are the maintenance needs of Aerobiotix products?
Maintenance will be dependent on the environment they are in, i.e., dust levels, etc. An Instruction Manual is provided with each unit.
- Cleaning: wipe down exterior of units as needed with disinfectant wipes.
- Prefilter Cartridge Replacements:
- AeroCure 200: replace prefilter cartridge quarterly.
- GermZone 100: replace the filter approximately every 6 months.
Note: More frequent cartridge changes may be needed in high contamination areas.
- HEPA Filter:
- AeroCure 200: The HEPA filter will need replaced once per year.
- GermZone 100: Not applicable.
- UV Lamp Replacement:
- AeroCure 200: replace approximately every 2 years.
- GermZone 100: replace approximately every 2 years.
